Spring Greetings, Seaweed Lovers!

As spring is in the air, we plan our next harvest cycle from April through August. We harvest seaweed approximately 40 days out of the year, all on the new and full moons in the summer, because these are the lowest tides of the year and because we can dry the seaweeds outside.

We appreciate our regular customers and are always happy to introduce seaweed to more people as our new customers, so for the next 15 days, we are offering 15% off any seaweed order placed!

Seaweed, which is marine algae that comes in brown, red, or green forms, has been an important food to coastal communities through the millennia. Throughout history, people worldwide have understood how important tapping into seaweed was for survival. Asian countries have used seaweed for centuries in dishes like sushi, salads, and rice. Pacific Islanders mix it with vegetables; in the British Isles, seaweed is eaten with oatmeal. Here on the North Coast of California, Pomo tribal members have eaten nori fried and in breads forever. What’s intriguing is that seaweed offers an abundant, sustainable source of food that can be grown without the need for land, irrigation, or chemicals. It grows wild on the Mendocino Coast, which is even better!

This month’s recipe is easy, healthy, and delicious. It’s perfect for breakfast or any time you need a little pick-me-up. Try the Seaweed Mixed Berry Smoothie below.

Don’t Forget!!

This is a once-a-year sale for us, so stock up on seaweeds you may use throughout the year! Take advantage of 15% off any seaweed order until April 15th with the code 15percent
