Ocean Harvest Sea Vegetables

Northern California wild-harvested edible seaweeds

Hello Seaweed Lovers! We are the Koch Family (Ryan, Amanda and Addie) and we would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves as the new owners/stewards of Ocean Harvest Sea Vegetables. We are proud to be the fourth owners of Ocean Harvest since 1981.

While apprenticing with Terry last year, we fell in love with the business. We learned the process of harvesting and drying seaweed in the most ethical and sustainable manner. We also gained a deeper connection to the inter-tidal zone that we love. We are so excited to carry on the Ocean Harvest legacy of providing you with the highest quality sea vegetables.

While some things will change, we are committed to the core values of Ocean Harvest Sea Vegetables. We will continue to harvest by hand, sun-dry our seaweed to maintain maximum nutrition and continue to respect the environment.

Thank you to the long-time customers who have already reached out to us. We look forward to meeting the rest of you. It is an honor to be able to continue providing you with the sea vegetables that you know and love!

Sincerely,

Ryan, Amanda and Addie Koch

  1. I got in touch a few weeks back. You not only replied but actually perused my site enough to be able to identify me as a fellow creative. Half the time, I forget that I auto include it with my email signature so others engaging is always a pleasant as welcome surprise. That spoke so highly about curiosity RE: your customer base and generosity with your time to even peek. You also mentioned your own craft of photography. As a writer, I oft find my inkwell, equally, if not more, inspired by your medium “worth a thousand words”. I guess I might type ‘your other craft’ as seaweed gathering qualifies well. Enjoy this next chapter.

    • Thanks Krysten. We have been so appreciative of all the support from our long time customers. Ocean Harvest is a business, sure, but it seems to run a bit deeper than simply commerce. It is corny to say that every order is packaged with love. However, we do put a lot of positive energy into every hand-harvested, sun-dried, and hand-packed piece. A lot of hyphens too.
